We wanted to create a new way of watching tv, combining linear tv and video on demand streaming experience for Viaplay and Viasat customers.

My role
Visual Designer – define visual style cross platforms for the new product experience for live tv in Viaplay.

UX Challenges
How might we create a digital service that takes the advantages of linear zapping but creates a more meaningful and rewarding experience? How might we build this experience consistent and easy to use when we have so many different platforms to consider?
Solution
A tv experience concept inside the Viaplay app that let users choose live tv and catch up content of their preference from grid, where you could easily swipe to change content. Once you clicked the content it immediately started - to be more like live tv. If users wanted they could easily connect the content to a large tv screen, in that way making the mobile/tablet as a secondary device with added info of the tv event.

A lot of visual explorations were made and tested before we landed in a system that was intuitive to use.
Process
We used external help for benchmark and user research. With those insights we synthesised ideas and defined visual and ux direction. We decided on devices to prototype and to do user tests of the concept.
We collected insights from tests and communicated the most important insights to stakeholders. With the concept at hand we performed a collaborative workshop to define scope with developers, Product owner’s and other stakeholders at Viaplay. After that we started to build the product step by step, doing user tests and iterating before launch.

Insights
We released a service with a new interaction model that really worked. The experience is really smooth on the Ipad and gives a real good overview of the most important content. It was a project full of learnings in collaboration and how to set a framework in a structured way. Testing out a lot of innovation models was fun and inspiring.
